Tarmac Driveway Cleaning Torquay January 2023

Purity Solutions first job of 2023 was to clean a large tarmac driveway in Torquay, Devon.

The driveway was over 300 metre squared and being tarmac, we knew it would be difficult to clean.

Around all the edges of the driveway was a heavy build up of moss. The moss was not just around all the edges of the drive, it was built up within the porous spaces across the whole drive.

We knew this was going to be a difficult task to clean.

Why is it so hard to remove moss from Tarmac, and why is Tarmac difficult to clean?

Tarmac is porous with lots of cavities within the surface.

Moss builds up not just on the surfaces of the tarmac, but within the porous spaces within the tarmac.

Can moss be removed from tarmac by jet/pressure washing alone?

Yes it can, however you would need to use a turbo nozzle attachment to remove the moss.

The only issue is that pressure washing tarmac with a turbo nozzle can easily damage the tarmac.

So how did we clean the tarmac driveway?

We decided to carry out a light pressure wash around the edges of the driveway to get rid of most of the heavy moss build up.

Then using our specialist 22 inch flat surface cleaner, we pressure washed the surface of the driveway knowing that it would not damage the surface whilst removing 90% of the moss.

The driveway has been completely transformed.

With the remaining moss, we will re-attend later on when it is dry to apply a specialised moss killer called MossOff which will over time, kill all the remaining moss within the tarmac.

We also were asked to clean the stone gargoyle statues in which we applied Benz Softwash Tornado Cleanze which quickly removed all the black spot growths on the statues.
